“This is Why We Do What We Do”: A Powerful Day of Remembrance, Connection, and Community at Barretstown

11.05.2025

Our bi-annual family gatherings at Barretstown are a cornerstone of our services. On these
deeply meaningful days, we draw our circle of care even wider to include siblings, grandparents,
and other family members. Families from across the country gather to honour and remember
their beloved children. Together with the team at Barretstown, we consider this day to be
‘serious fun;’ an opportunity to honour the memory of much-loved children, and to build new
heart-healing memories.
CEO Michelle Reynolds reflects, “Events like this are at the very heart of Anam Cara’s mission:
creating safe, compassionate spaces where bereaved parents and siblings feel seen, understood,
and never alone. I felt honoured to have the opportunity to meet and connect with so many of
our families.”
Our heartfelt thanks to all the families who joined us, to the incredible team at Barretstown for
their warmth and hospitality, and especially to Dee and Leanne from our Services Team, who
brought such care and dedication to organising the event. We would also like to thank Peter Hanlon for presiding over the tree planting ceremony, a tangible reminder of the deep roots
children leave in our hearts long after they have gone. We could not have shared this serious fun
without you all.
