Reflections on Anam Cara’s Camino 2025

By Michelle Reynolds, CEO, Anam Cara Parental & Sibling Bereavement Support

“At journey’s end, it’s not the destination we remember, but those who walked beside us.”

This October, I had the privilege of walking part of the Camino de Santiago with a group of the most extraordinary people. Parents, friends, and supporters of Anam Cara who came together to walk in memory, in solidarity, and in hope.

The Camino has a way of holding you. In its stillness, in its simplicity, in the rhythm of one foot after another. Over five days, we laughed, cried, shared stories, and walked through moments of silence that spoke louder than words ever could. Every step became a quiet act of remembrance – for the children no longer in our arms, and for the families who continue to find their way through loss.

What struck me most wasn’t the challenge (though the blisters and sore legs were real!) but the connection. The way complete strangers became companions. How kindness showed up in small, steady ways. How courage looked like simply showing up, one step at a time.

To our incredible walkers – Catherine, Tracey, Nollaig, Karen, Anne, Donald, Fabi, Louise, and Peter – thank you for walking with open hearts. To everyone who supported us from home, donated, shared messages, or simply held us in your thoughts – you were part of every mile.

Together, we raised vital funds to ensure Anam Cara can continue to offer free, accessible bereavement support for parents and siblings across Ireland. But beyond the fundraising, what we carried home was something deeper… A reminder that healing happens in connection, and that even on the hardest paths, we never walk alone.

Buen Camino, beautiful friends.
May your feet rest, but your hearts keep walking.
