Family & Remembrance Events

Remembrance Events

Anam Cara’s Remembrance Days and family events provide a space and compassionate space for broader family members and supports to remember and celebrate the lives of children that have died. Anam Cara recognises that those who walk alongside bereaved parents on their journey—those soul friends—are important and may be grieving in their own ways. While at Anam Cara we provide support specifically for bereaved parents, these events offer emotional support and a sense of community to remind you that you are never alone in your loss. These events offer symbolic acts of remembrance, such as candle-lighting ceremonies, readings, and personal tributes.

Barretstown Family Events

We are honoured to partner with Barretstown twice a year to offer free, specially designed programmes for families affected by the loss of a child – supported by their professional staff. Barretstown helps families rebuild a sense of belonging and togetherness through ‘serious fun.’ Highlights from previous years include canoeing outings, planting remembrance trees, cupcake decorating, and more, all well-suited to the unique needs of your family. All members of families who have experienced the death of a child, including grandparents, are very welcome to join us for these days of comfort and hope.

National Remembrance Day

In many cultures, early November is a special time to remember those who we have loved and lost. To honour this, host an annual National Remembrance Day for families across the island. Some families choose to offer a spoken reflection or song, while others choose to participate in our candle-lighting ritual, or join together to do arts and crafts. Share stories, memories, and find solace in the company of those who truly understand. Let’s celebrate the lives of our cherished family members together.
