We are so grateful to several of our Volunteer Parents for representing Anam Cara in conjunction with Little Heroes and Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children for the 2026 Family Remembrance Walk in Belfast this year. This event gives space for families whose children were cared for at RBHSC or other Belfast medical teams before their death to come together, share resources, and their stories.
For some families, after being cared for by such compassionate medical teams, it can be hard to navigate what comes next after the death of a child. This is where bereavement support organisations, like Anam Cara, can make a difference. Parents are given resources about the specifics of parental grief, the opportunity to share their joys and struggles in a safe and supportive space, and the all-important knowledge that they are not alone.

“Yesterday’s event was very special,” says Volunteer Parent Margaret, “the organisers were genuinely very grateful for our presence, and as Kevin said we connected with many parents and extended families, also RBHSC staff. We gave our last candle to one staff member for her 86-year-old mother whose youngest daughter died 20 years ago.”
Thank you again to our incredible Volunteers who share their experience and their time with the families who need it most.
