Anam Cara, along with over 30 bereavement support organisations came together last night as part of the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) Living with Grief webinar. It was an evening of connection, and gentle support with over 140 people in attendance.
The evening began with a candle lighting ceremony, and Dee Regan from our Services Team lit the flame on behalf of Anam Cara. Orla Keegan, Director of bereavement & Education with the IHF gave a beautifully healing meditative reflection about the importance of taking time for self-care, to be gentle with ourselves and to remember that like the steady flame of the candle, we can allow ourselves to slowly grow and shine brighter as we navigate our grief.
Orla, along with Catherine Tierney, Clinical lead with the IHF and Sonia Rennicks, Manager with the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network, spoke about how grief manifests, the impact of, and differences in, a bereavement to both adults and children and how as professionals, friends and family members we can best support them on their grief journey. While the evening spotlighted the many bereavement support organisations operating across the country, the main focus was on compassion, understanding and a reminder that no one has to journey alone in their grief as there are many hands reaching out to support you.
