What We Do

Who We Are

Anam Cara is an all-island organisation founded by bereaved parents to support others who have experienced the death of a child. We understand the pain and isolation that comes with this loss, and we are here to offer hope, understanding, and connection. Guided by empathy and lived experience, we provide a safe space where parents can find support and solidarity with others who truly understand.

Our Services

We provide a range of free support services for bereaved parents across the island of Ireland. Our services include bereavement information evenings, online and in-person peer support groups, bereavement resources, family remembrance events, and opportunities to connect with others who truly understand the grief of losing a child. We create safe, compassionate spaces where parents can share their experiences, find comfort, and know they are not alone.

Our History

Anam Cara was founded in 2008 by bereaved parents to address the shortfall of information and support to those who had experienced the death their child, of any age and through any circumstance. The organisational
structure was designed to focus on supporting vulnerable bereaved parents and our front-line teams of volunteer parents and facilitators.
