Online Support Meetings

Online Support Meetings

Our online support meetings are for bereaved parents who are more familiar with our services, and require registration. This is an opportunity to continue building the relationships of mutual support and solidarity you have established in face-to-face meetings. Please reach out to us to discuss if online supports might be right for you.

Before attending on of our online meetings,
please ensure you have familiarised yourself with our online meeting guidelines:

  • To foster a positive online environment, we invite you find a quiet, stationary place to be for the duration of the group and grab a drink/snack/blanket/tissues and get comfy. For the confidentiality of your fellow parents, we ask that you wear headphones or seat yourself in a private room with a closed door.
  • Ensure that you have access to Zoom. You will need an authenticated Zoom account for access to the groups. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, they have a Getting Started Guide if you need help. Unfortunately, there is no tech support available at the meeting. If you are having broadband or other technical problems, you may have to leave the meeting. If this happens, the Facilitator will follow-up with you later.
  • Before the meeting starts, you will be in our waiting room, at 7pm the Facilitator will admit everyone to the group. If you’re able, take this time to rename yourself and check your camera and audio. The Facilitator will guide you on how to raise your hand (both physically and using the Zoom Raise Hand button) so that you can contribute to the conversation during the meeting.  The meeting will be 1hr 30 mins in duration and will be locked once it starts. This means you cannot leave and come back, so we ask that you do not leave the meeting during this time. If you do need to leave the meeting for any reason, please let the Facilitator know. They may put you in the waiting room/breakout room and have a quick chat with you before you go.

After the meeting, you may find yourself a little disoriented, as the online meetings can’t recreate the organic chats that happen after face-to-face Anam Cara meetings on the way to the carpark or the drive home. To take a moment to recentre yourself, we have a suggested list of links to a selection of reflective YouTube videos that you can view and listen to after the meetings. These have been recommended by other Anam Cara parents.  Please note the first piece is a self-care clip recorded by Brid Carroll especially for Anam Cara parents.
